Wren Edgar - Origami Chamber Music 1 / LOOV-116

Medium: Origami from vintage sheet music mounted on linen

Dimensions: 28cm high X 24cm wide, framed

The Artist: Wren Edgar

The intricacy and mathematical rhythm in this hand-folded origami reveals patterns in the music that emphasise the balance, rhythm and harmony of Mozart’s composition (duet for violin and viola). The patterns formed in the origami reveal new ways to experience the qualities of the composition, the equal importance placed on both instruments by the composer is made tangible in the regularity and distribution of the patterns formed.

Would Mozart have approved of being a ‘framed tune’ in the Loovre? His letters demonstrate that he had a scatological sense of humour (he liked toilet jokes), so I think he would have been proud to be included in this exhibition.

I first learned origami when I was four years old, since then I have continued to develop my skills, hand folding paper to create complex geometric forms. I went on to gain a distinction in my Fine Art foundation degree at Stroud School of Art in 2020 and a 2:1 for my BSc in Architecture from the Welsh School of Architecture in June 2023.
