Despite the vibrant colour schemes and floral themes, it’s seldom a walk in the park being part of the LGBT+ community - and this year has been particularly difficult. Across the pond in the continued ramping up of fascist-adjacent behaviour, a shocking number of states have introduced anti trans legislation and retailers have had their Pride displays targeted with bomb threats and boycotts. Closer to home we have a press that is incredibly hostile to the trans community and, after a string of pretty awful governments, our current lot - despite being criticised by a 'deeply concerned' UN - are actively trying to exclude trans people from public life. Unsurprisingly, hate crime is through the roof and all in all it’s a genuinely scary time to step outside as a visibly queer or gender non-conforming person.

In the face of the doom and gloom, Pride month is more important than ever to the community and this year we’re celebrating with a new mug and matching print (A3 or A5). The design is a veritable cornucopia of flowers that have been important to the queer community throughout history. Sappho’s violets, Oscar Wilde’s green carnation, pansies, lilies and more bloom around a message of hope in the face of adversity – They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds! This design celebrates the courage and strength of those who have gone before, and reminds those still fighting for rights & recognition to keep digging in deep.
