The Artist: Conrico Steez

A street artist, illustrator, print maker and signwriter based in Bristol but frequently travelling all across the UK and internationally to paint. Being an artist has been my goal since being a wee lad. Inspired by the colourful streets and walls around me growing up in Bristol and with a penchant for Japanese print work and comics, I grew up fascinated with creating visual worlds one could lose themselves in. Infused with colour palettes that blend and endear the eye of the beholder presenting bold and dynamic works of art. As time went on, I developed my skills as an artist studying painting, photography, film, video games and comic artwork whilst being inspired by the beautiful hues and colours of the natural world. It wasn't until I was in university that I started to develop my skill sets as a mural artist and sign writer. After losing interest in the course I was on (due to feeling uninspired by the parameters of the course), I decided to take the plunge into the full time world of art by becoming a studio assistant in a screenprint shop, shadowing the work of my higher ups to learn how to run a business. After two years of working in this trade and picking up skills, I decided to take the leap into becoming self-employed. Putting my feet on the ground and holding a can of paint in my hand, I went out into the world to make my stake. Painting walls whenever I could to develop my skills and making a great bunch of friends/contemporaries along the way. My work is often based around character portraits, scenes of nature, life and moments of intimacy with another or the world around us. Whilst painting murals and signs is my mainline of work, I create bespoke canvas artworks for my own fun from time to time as personal projects creating digital illustrations to sell as prints at markets and for friends/family.
